MUSHIN BUS STOP—7AM
Silencer, a Bus Conductor, is seen calling passengers into his bus, as the Bus parks; the world-famous Lagos yellow bus.
He calls with so much determination, passion and aggression; like his life depends on how much he makes today… well maybe it does. He sees a potential passenger and negotiates with him.
MUSHIN! MUSHIN!! MUSHIN!!!
Haba na, I still carried it 70 Naira yesterday.
Fuel dey yesterday. Today, no fuel.
Let me pay 70 Naira…?
Pay 90 Naira, if you get change ni o.
I only have 75 naira change with me…
Silencer ignores him and continues to yell ‘Mushin’, with the same determination.
Some Passengers refuse to enter because of the price inflation.
They need to be sure it’s the general price, not just for this Bus.
Silencer’s Boss; the Bus Driver notices that potential passengers are being left behind and speaks out, questioning his focus.
Silencer, wetin dey happen, why you dey leave passenger?
Oga, na because dem no get change.
It’s a Lie o! He is charging us 100 Naira, instead of 70 Naira! The only reason I entered this Bus is because I am almost late to where I am going. Liar!
The Bus Driver knows what Silencer is doing is very wrong but leaps to his defense anyway.
No be so my brother; na fuel wahala. It dey everywhere.
The Bus Driver gives Silencer a look only he understands: ‘if we get short today, your money will be the one to suffer.’
Silencer refuses to respond; he knows nobody will understand why he needs to make more money today, not even his Boss.
He acts like all is well and continues to call his passengers, now at the normal price.
